Artist Statement CV Press Release
Gali Rotstein excavates silhouetted forms from the black washes of her large-scale works on paper. Fluid and playful in her process, the artist allows her materials to inform her exploration. Rotstein adds and removes elements from her collages and paintings as they evolve beyond the state of initial conception into fully articulated pieces. Using shadow, light, and the residual image (both temporal and thematic), her forms burst organically through the geometric constraints of the picture plane.
